KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS FOR QUICKBOOKS

Have you ever noticed that some people have fingers that just fly across the keyboard when they are using QuickBooks?  They make everything look so easy!  They are probably using a lot of SHORTCUTS.  Here are a few to help with navigating around the QuickBooks screen:

1.  To move the cursor to the next field, click the TAB key.  It will automatically highlight what is already there so all you have to do is start typing the desired text or number.

2.  If you are really good at using the number keys on the right side of your keyboard, you might want to use the ENTER key to move from one field to the next.  By default, QuickBooks uses the ENTER key to record the transaction, but you can change that.  Go to "Edit" at the top of the screen; scroll down to "Preferences".  Highlight "General" and you will see a place where you can direct QuickBooks to use ENTER to move between fields.

3.  To close out a window, most of us click that little tiny "x" in the upper right hand corner.  Unfortunately, you probably have clicked the big "X" by mistake and closed the program!  To avoid all this, simply click the ESC key on your keyboard and the window will close.

4.  You can see all the windows you have open by clicking "View" at the very top and then click "Open Window List".  This will create an additional column on the left which shows all the open windows.  You can then click on this list to get from one window to the next.  However, only have a few windows open at a time.  Having dozens of windows open, slows down the program - especially if you have reports open.  You also want to close all the windows before shutting down.  It will make exiting faster and opening faster.
